Stuck in the Middle

I’m not where I used to be, but I’m definitely not where I want to be. It feels like I’m stuck in the middle.
— Sheena V.

Can anybody else relate to this statement? In last week’s post, New Place, Old You, I shared how God wants to change our character, and prepare us for where He is taking us.

In the book of Exodus, God promised to rescue the Israelites out of slavery. He promised them a land, flowing with milk and honey. (Exodus 3:17) In order to get to this “promised land”, they had to go through the wilderness. The Israelites stayed in the wilderness way longer than God intended. (But, we won’t get into that aspect of it today.)

The wilderness is where God refines, teaches, and prepares us, for our destiny. Right now, God is preparing you, for your exit out of your wilderness season, into your promised land. He’s changing your mindset from one of a slave, to that of royalty. (1 Peter 2:9)

When God begins to share his desires for your future, it can sometimes feel like what God has told you will never come to pass. Many of us have left the “slavery” of Egypt, and are awaiting the “new place.”

Unfortunately, many of us get stuck in the middle, and never walk into God’s true purpose for our lives. We stay stuck between the old place, and the new place.

We’re not all at the same place in our journey, but for some, you’ve endured the process of the wilderness, and it’s time to walk into those things that have been spoken over your life. While you know in your heart that it’s time for a change, you may still feel stuck.

What God shared with me is this…
For many, you’re like the person in the boat. It feels like you’re in the middle of the ocean…stuck. You’re not who you used to be, but you’re not where you want to be.

You’ve come too far to turn back, but there’s some fear, or uncertainty, in taking that next leap. Because of this uncertainty, many of God’s children have remained “stuck in the middle”.

It is in this place, that God may be asking us to step out of the boat, and walk onto the water. Walking onto the water”, is trusting God and saying…

“Ok God, I trust you. I may be afraid, but I’m going to step out of this boat, step out of my comfort zone, and walk INTO THE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME.

See, stepping out of your comfort zone, and pushing past your fears isn’t easy. It is however, necessary, to get to the next place God is calling us to.

It is so important for us to have discernment, to know where we are on our journey. In this season, God may be telling you to “be still”, or saying “not yet”.

For others, God is saying “it’s time to take that leap of faith”, “step out of the boat”.

As Peter began to walk to Jesus on the water, he became afraid because of what was going on around him, and he began to sink. The Bible tells us that Jesus rescued Peter immediately. (Matthew 14:30-31)

What we can learn from Peter, is to keep our eyes on Jesus. Regardless of where we find ourselves on this journey, trust is required at every level.

Sometimes, God will get you out in the middle of the ocean, where you’ve rowed too far to turn back, and he’ll say, “Come, my child. Step out of the boat, and walk onto the water. The place I have prepared is waiting for you.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for what you are doing in my life. I know that the things you have prepared for me, are far greater than I can imagine. In those times that I feel stuck, I ask for clarity. Give me a clear understanding of what my next step should be. Continue to prepare me for where you’re taking me. I thank you for how far you’ve brought me, and I praise you in advance, for the things I have yet to see. Let your will be done in my life. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Today’s Reading: Isaiah 42:16; Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:2-3‬ ‭

Isaiah 42:16 (AMP) “I will lead the blind by a way they do not know; I will guide them in paths that they do not know. I will make darkness into light before them And rugged places into plains. These things I will do [for them], And I will not leave them abandoned or undone.”

Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:2-3‬ ‭(NLT‬‬) “Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands. Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
