What inspired you to start Jazzy Lips?

IMG_0811.jpeg

I got tired of not finding a good lipstick. I would find lipsticks that were excellent, but too pricey, or sometimes the perfect price, but too cheap of quality. I decided to do my research and start my own line!

What truly inspired me was seeing other women not being afraid to take a risk. Whether this succeeds beyond my expectations or not, I’m glad that I’m giving it my all. I don’t regret any of it, and I never will.

Jazzy Lips products are vegan and cruelty free. As the CEO, why do you feel these qualities were important for your brand?

These qualities were important to me because I wanted to reach as many women as possible. I didn’t want anyone to feel left out, or feel that they had to search high and low for a product that was made for them.

A cruelty free and vegan product can be sent directly to your front door. Also, it’s just a better product for everyone. All of my upcoming products are vegan, besides one collection, and all collections are cruelty free and gluten free.

What type of impact do you aspire to have on the beauty community?

I want to have a major impact on the beauty community. Some women like to wear a natural look every day, with a nice lipstick, or gloss to make you pop just a little…nothing too extra. I want women to know there’s nothing wrong with simplicity.

You can have some nice colors that are work appropriate. They are the ones I want all over my website, and all over my social media. The everyday woman. That’s what my brand is about.

Do you plan to add additional make-up items to Jazzy Lips in the future?

I’m very quiet about my next steps, but I do plan to expand my business.

Please stay tuned!

How have you been able to balance launching your business while pursuing your master’s degree?

It hasn’t been easy at all. Sometimes, I don’t feel like I get any time to just relax. Now that my business is up and running, it has gotten easier.

My assignments are on a set schedule, and I know what’s due weeks in advance. So, it makes it easier to manage, but it’s still hard. I have my break down moments like any grad student!

What would you say has been your biggest obstacle with starting your own business, and how were you able to overcome that obstacle?

My biggest obstacle was fear, fear that I wouldn’t meet my own expectations, fear that I wouldn’t get any support, and fear that I would fail.

Prayer has gotten me through that because now, I’m just happy to have even made it to this point. I am so proud of myself, and my business is doing great.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a business, but may not feel like it’s a possibility for whatever reason?

TAKE THE RISK! If it’s something you truly want to do, go for it! Do your research, research again, and again. And most importantly, TAKE YOUR TIME.

It isn’t a race, and your only competition is yourself! I don’t want anyone living with regret due to fear. Don’t allow negativity in your space. You are capable of ANYTHING. You got this!

What is something about you that most people would be surprised to know?

IMG_0785.jpeg

I hate asking for help. I will spend hours trying to figure something out on my own before I ask anyone to help me. I am also VERY emotional.

Who is someone that has inspired you on your journey to becoming an entrepreneur?

I have been trying to find my niche for years, but the person that unknowingly pushed me to go for it was my best friend, Lavonda Jones.

Seeing her balance her business while working, and having children, made me realize that I no longer had an excuse for why I hadn’t started. I was afraid, and she showed me that there was nothing to be afraid of. I’m so proud of her.

How has your faith and relationship with God, helped you to get to where you are today?

I wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for God. He has wrecked me and built me back up, forcing me to see how strong I truly am. I didn’t understand why I was experiencing so much at once, but he was preparing me for the greatness that he has brought into my life. I’m so glad I remained patient, and kept my faith in Him.

Things won’t always be perfect, but knowing that there’s a reason for it all, and that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel helps me through.
