The Waiting Room
I was sitting at the kitchen table recently, and I began thinking about all the things that I was waiting on in this season of my life. It had gotten to a point where it felt like my life only consisted of me sitting around waiting on the things that were to come. (Or at least that I hoped would come.)
While I was thinking about all the things I was waiting on, I said to myself (before I said worriedly to my husband), “It feels like I’m in a waiting room.” It felt like I was stuck in this weird place in my life. The answers that I needed, I didn’t have. The provision I was waiting on hadn’t arrived, and the clarity I was seeking, seemed so far away.
There are multiple reasons why you may be in your own “waiting room” in one way or another. If you can’t relate to any of the above, I’m sure that you have something that you were, or are currently waiting on in your own life. Many of us are waiting on life to have some sense of normalcy again. For some of us, the lockdown in our areas due to COVID-19 have been lifted(or somewhat), but life still feels far from normal.
When most of us think about the waiting room we may associate it with something bad, like waiting to hear bad news from the doctor. In the waiting room, our minds wonder, and we often begin to imagine the worse case scenario.
The waiting room can be an uncomfortable, and even scary place. But while we’re waiting, things are taking place behind the scenes…behind the doors, that we can’t see.
When I began to think about it, I started to realize that the waiting room isn’t always bad. Good news can also come in the waiting. Sometimes the waiting room can be a place where we’re waiting on something exciting to happen. At times, even waiting on exciting news can be scary when you’re not quite sure how things will turn out.
The waiting room can be an uncomfortable place. When you get the news that the surgery was successful, the newborn baby is healthy, and the prognosis that you feared is negative, the waiting room can also be a place of REJOICING!
In my own situation, I realized that I didn’t have to wait until I received what I was waiting for to change my mindset about it. Instead of sitting around worrying everyday about what the outcome will be, I can praise God in the waiting! I can have peace in the waiting!
A lot of times we get overwhelmed in the waiting because it’s hard to see a solution. It’s difficult when we don’t have all the answers. As humans it’s natural for us to want to be in control of everything in our lives. The truth is, we don’t know everything, and we don’t have all the answers, but WE SERVE A GOD WHO DOES!
So, if you’re waiting on something right now, and you don’t know what the outcome will be, have peace in this truth…
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for everything that you have done in my life. I especially want to thank you for the things that you are working behind the scenes that I cannot see. Help me to trust you even when it feels like you’re not moving. I know that you have already worked everything out for my good, and that you will supply all of my needs according to your riches in Christ’s glory. In Jesus Name. Amen.
