5 Style Tips for Shopping on a Budget

The one thing that I’ve learned about style, is that it is what you make it!  You can take simple pieces and make them stand out with how you choose to rock it.  In my Style Defined article, I shared a little about my personal style.

When I left the military and became a college student, I had to re-prioritize my life and my spending habits.  Ever heard the phrase, “Shopping is my Cardio”? Well, that used to define my life.  Every weekend, the mall was calling my name!

Over the past few years, other things have taken priority. (You know, little things like my family having a roof over their heads and food to eat.)  Sooo, I’ve definitely learned some “style lessons”, that have helped me save some coins.

Style Tip # 1: Some of the best things can be found at the most unexpected places

Many people would choose online shopping over “store hopping” any day.  Online shopping is just more convenient, except if you can be a procrastinator like me. If you wait until the very last minute to find an outfit, store hopping may be your best option to get your outfit on time.

Something about me?  I can shop anywhere!  I find the cutest things at places many people may not ever think to look.  I would honestly wear something from the dollar store (which I have) if it looks good on me.  Again, it’s all about how you style it!

You can find cute items at thrift stores like Goodwill and other consignment shops. There are also places that sell gently used clothes, like Plato’s Closet.  Sometimes, you may even find brand new items at these places, that still have tags on it.

So, try broadening your horizons.  You may be surprised at what you might find.

Style Tip #2: Search Your Closet

“I have nothing to wear!”

If you’re anything like me, you stand in your closet full of clothes and yell this.

Sometimes, we get so used to pairing the same wardrobe pieces together. There may be things in your closet that you never thought of putting together. When you switch things up, it'll feel like a brand new outfit.

When you have some extra time, go through your closet, and see what items you can pair together to make an old outfit, like new.

Style Tip # 4: Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

For me, accessorizing is the most important part of any outfit!  The right accessories can take your outfit from,

GIRL, STOP!”, to “SHOWSTOPPER!

Style Tip #5 Don’t Let Your Budget Determine Your Confidence

While everyone would love to have an endless budget to dedicate to their wardrobe, let’s face it, that’s just not feasible for most of us.  You can still be fierce and fabulous with a small budget!

A small budget doesn’t have to affect your style.  You may just have to get more creative, and think outside the box!

Whatever you wear, rock it with confidence!
