Identity Part Three: The Glow Up

For God alone holds the blueprint to our future. In order to follow the plan God has for our lives, we must first follow Him.

In my last blog post, I told you guys that this last part of the series would be about ways to grow closer to God. Like I stated before, in order to know who YOU are, you first have to get to know the ONE that created you.

God is the key to unlocking our true identity, our purpose, our gifts, and our destiny through Christ Jesus.

What came to me as I was preparing to write this week’s blog post, was the term, Glow Up. I know that term is mainly used for physical transformations. Something “glows up”, when it’s physical appearance is changed for the better.

But what about the “glow up” in our spiritual walk with God?

I believe that we truly glow up through a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with God. Through this relationship, we’re transformed from the inside out!

…is what truly makes us G L O W.

But, what does a relationship with God look like?

When I mentioned what this topic would be about in my last blog post, I thought I would be making this long list of things to do in order to grow closer to God.

In all actuality, I think we’ve over complicated what developing a relationship with God really looks like. Today, I want to simplify it with this quote.

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is to simply be in an intimate relationship with Jesus each day.

The number one way we begin to develop a relationship with someone is by investing our TIME into the relationship. A relationship with God is no different. John 17:3 states, “And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.”

We have to ask ourselves, How can we expect to get to know someone that we never spend time with? God wants us to get to know Him. We do this through relationship, and we develop relationship by investing our time.

I know that we all live very busy lives. You may be so busy, that you’re wondering at one point during your day, you would have quiet time to set aside for God. I know I used to feel like this as well.

Some years ago, I told myself that I would wake up early every morning before work, and spend time with God. At the time I was single, and a single parent.

Before I would wake my daughter up for daycare/school, I would take some time, (I think I initially set my alarm 30 mins early) and I would go to a quiet place in our house to pray. I would listen to worship music, sing, read my Bible, read a Christian book, write in my journal etc. I just wanted to be close to God.

Fast forward nine years later, I see that the decision I made to set aside time for God each day, is what changed my life. I’m not going to lie, some days it was a struggle to get out the bed (some days it still is lol).

I couldn’t see it at the time, but in hindsight, I realize that God was developing me. Spending time with God helps us to mature, and evolve into who He called us to be.

Maybe you only have 15 extra minutes in the morning. That’s completely ok. God just wants you to start somewhere. Maybe you don’t have time in the morning at all, but you have some extra time during your lunch break at work. Great! God just wants you to start somewhere.

Again, God isn’t looking for “perfection”, He’s just looking for YOU.

A Godly Lifestyle of “Worship”, is not referring to singing songs at church on Sunday. Attending church is great, but worship is so much more than that.

Relationships are developed over time, through consistency and communication. We communicate with God through prayer. There are so many different ways that we can worship God.

BUT…

Ultimately, we worship God when we honor him with our lives. We worship God when we live for Him.

It is my hearts desire that you know your true identity. It’s my hearts desire that you grow closer to your Heavenly Father. It’s my hearts desire that you walk in your purpose.

Guess what? This is God’s desire for you too. It’s time for God’s people to get off the sidelines. It’s time for us to walk into ALL that God has for us. It’s time for us to GLOW!

ARE You ready??? LET’s glow together!

Today’s Prayer:

Father God, I thank you for my life. Thank you that you have made me special, and thank you for creating me in your image. I thank you for the revelation that my purpose is found in you. Show me who you created me to be. Help me to grow closer to you. I realize how important it is to spend time with you, because you hold the key to my future. Help me to prioritize my day, so that I can make more time for you. I surrender my life to you and ask you to have your way. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Today’s Reading: Colossians‬ ‭1:9-10; 2 Peter‬ ‭3:18‬

Colossians‬ ‭1:9-10‬ (‭NLT‬‬): So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.”

2 Peter‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬): “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”
